Maple Syrup Whiskey: It's What's for Breakfast

There are few things more Canadian than maple syrup and rye whiskey.  So it was only a matter of time until an enterprising Canuck entrepreneur combined them into what may be the ultimate Canadian liquer: Sortilege.

I came across this tasty beverage on a recent trip to Quebec City.  Smooth, sweet and mapled, the drink is best sipped over ice or pre-chilled in a shot glass.  For a more adventurous experience (or after a few Maudite biers), try it poured over chocolate ice cream or waffles (haven't done this myself, but have at it, big boy).

Sortilege is available from the SAQ in Quebec but I don't think they will ship outside the province.

Its available in the USA via mailorder (web) from shopritewines.com in Chester new jersey or shopping.com or wallywine.com out of California and probably in many other spots.

If you have a decent wine merchant nearby they should be able to order it in from you thru the maker, Maison Futailles in Anjou Quebec. Might want to call them and see if they a distributor in your area --  1 800 361 5978 or 514 353 1720 or maison@futailles.com

Worst case scenario, head to Quebec City for the annual Winter Carnival and you'll get to try it on fresh fallen snow!
